What if I turn a Kamen Rider into a 5e subclass - 1 Kuuga
In previous entries, I have been creating content for TTRPGs inspired by my love of Tokusatsu. Here is a link to the past entry.
Now, because of a corporate mandate to make for 5e content to convince our digital overlords to recommend this site to other humans (If you are a human reading this, thank you), I am starting a series of posts I am calling What if I turn a Kamen Rider into a 5e subclass.
Our first Kamen Rider to inspire a subclass is going to be Kamen Rider Kuuga, which is one of my favorite riders (even if Jaime complains that it is boring). I had to make a choice between Monk or Fighter. Yusuke Godai was mainly a brawler while facing the gurongi, and his alternate mode's upgraded weapons transformed what he was holding to the one required by his mode, which made me think of monk weapons. That is why I favored the monk (also, I am saving the Fighter for another Rider that I think fits that role better).
Warrior of Braveness (Kuuga)
Summon a shell and weapons from the strength of their will.
Warriors of braveness encountered something which allows them to project a shell over their body that is as strong as their resolve and unbreakable as their will. Their spirit also enhances any of their melee blows with elemental energy, and when harness in the correct way even weapons can alter their form to match their might. Facing everything with No fear and No pain.

Level 3: Henshin
As a Bonus action, You can expend 1 Focus point to summon your shell and choose one of the following two modes. Once you are in a mode you can change to another mode by expending 1 Focus Point as an Action This shell doesn’t count against your Unarmored Defense Feature. You gain access to the following 2 modes.
Mighty mode. The most balance of the modes, it enhances unarmed strikes as well as giving a good defensive armor. While in this mode you gain the following benefits.
- Your Unarmored Defense base Armor Class equals 12 plus your Dexterity and Wisdom modifier.
- Your Unarmed Strike deals an extra 1d6 of Fire damage when it hits.
- Mighty Kick. As a magic action you can make a melee attack against a target. On hit, the target takes 2d8 of Radiant damage. The damage increases by 1d8 if you expend 1 Focus Point, you can this up to a maximum of 8d8s.
Dragon mode. A high speed mode focused on moving fast, dealing more damage but with the tradeoff of less defense. While in this mode you gain the following benefits.
- Your Unarmored Defense base Armor Class equals 11 plus your Dexterity and Wisdom modifier.

I hope you like this take on Kuuga. Please let me know in the comments if there is anything that needs to be nerfed or buffed. Also, put suggestions for other Kamen riders that could fit well into a subclass. Next week, I’ll see if I get the second entry in this series or do something else. Creating subclasses takes some time, so I may have to release them every two weeks.

Also, if you have seen one of our previous works, Masks of Power, you’ll notice that this subclass and the one in that book are similar. That is intentional. I wrote that subclass while watching Kamen Rider Kuuga with Jaime, so it is heavily inspired by the first Kamen Rider of the Heisei era. Here is a link if you want ot check Masks of Power (you know the name of the game for this articles is shameless self-promotion.)
